Folks Back Home, by the Hut Dwellers

Maria’s observant, musical brother, Pat Brown, composed a fond reminiscence song dedicated to his sister in admiration of her transformation from a small town girl to a cultural icon entertaining faithful supporters and the general public in the Paris, the City of Lights.

With his folk-rock band, The Hut Dwellers, Pat arranged a compelling orchestration, while Daisy Bell lent her haunting voice to bring the song to life.

David Henry shot the video sequences of Maria in around Paris’ famous, charming nooks to make a video to match the song: Here are the lyrics:

She started off life in a quiet little town
Got engaged at 19 and they saved for a house
She didn’t feel easy
She spent her days working 9 to 5
Her deep beliefs
were keeping her alive

She knew something was wrong
She travelled to Moscow on a mission of mercy
Trying to free minds
that were already rescued
She knew she had to change.

Back home, what are the folks gonna say back home
Who are the neighbours gonna turn to now you’re gone
The sun will rise and the moon will go down
You will be remembered in your hometown.

She danced in the streets of old town Paris
An Arabian princess
living in a mystical land
Like she was walking on water
She threaded the needle through the eye of the storm
Only seeing love since the day she was born
She saw through the darkness.

Back home, what are the folks gonna say back home
Who are the neighbours gonna turn to now you’re gone
The sun will rise and the moon will go down
You will be remembered in your hometown.

A lifetime of belief was called into question
Confusion and guilt led to a change of perception
And she knew she had to leave.
The strangest feeling she ever knew
Closed her eyes in dreams she flew
With her guardian angel
Marie became Maria

Back home, what are the folks gonna say back home
Who are the neighbours gonna turn to now you’re gone
The sun will rise and the moon will go down
You will be remembered in your hometown.

Back home, what are the folks gonna say back home
Who are the neighbours gonna turn to now you’re gone
The sun will rise and the moon will go down
You will be remembered in your hometown.
